The Kessa Glove: what it is and what it's used for

A 100% natural beauty accessory.

The doctor Ana Molina, one of the top beauty influencers says, “My beauty motto has always been and always will be ‘less is more.’ It’s a motto we follow to the letter in El Jardín de Hammam, because it is part of the care philosophy we practice at Hammam Al Ándalus, and that, in fact, it closely resembles the approach already practiced by the great Andalusian physicians such as Averroes and Avempace, who, in addition to prescribing remedies and treating physical ailments, understood that the mind and spirit are also linked to health.

Of all the cosmetic products we use every day, the simplest, the most humble, and yet one of the most effective is the Kessa glove. You could say it’s a third hand or an extended hand, but it’s actually a mitten made from a 100% plant-based fiber called ramio which comes from the plant of the same name and was originally used in the East. From this highly prized and versatile fiber, a specially woven mesh is created to exert a gentle yet continuous “scrubbing” effect on the skin, making this glove the best accessory for skin care—whether wet, dry, with soap, or with body oil…

We have already discussed in other articles the importance of exfoliation For healthy, beautiful skin, one of the most important steps is to keep the skin on your body and face free of impurities and dead skin cells, without disrupting the skin’s microbiome or its natural oil balance. Another one of our go-to influencers, Héctor Núñez, she has commented in various posts on her Instagram account on the benefits of regular exfoliation as an essential part of a skincare routine to ensure optimal results from subsequent cosmetic treatments.

In Hammam Al-Ándalus exfoliation is the cornerstone of purification ritual which prepares the body for the massage after thoroughly cleansing it of impurities. This ritual is performed with a Kessa glove and Crema de Jabón Negro, two simple yet very powerful allies for keeping your skin healthy, refreshed, and in perfect condition. The Crema de Jabón Negro  thanks to its saponification properties, pH level, high EVOO content, and 100% natural ingredients, it is the ideal base for use with the Kessa glove—a minimalist ritual that is also packed with benefits.

Benefits of the Kessa Glove

  • It is the most natural way to exfoliate the skin, while preserving the skin’s microbiome and the epidermis’s natural lipid barrier. It is done on wet skin by applying an amount about the size of a walnut to the glove, which should also be wet Crema de Jabón Negro, or failing that, using a tablet of Jabón Extra Suave Hidratante. First, put the glove on one hand and then the other, and massage the body from bottom to top, starting at the ankles and working your way up to the shoulders and the back of the neck, using circular motions toward the heart. There’s no need to press too hard or rub too vigorously; this should also be a pleasant and relaxing experience.
  • The Kessa glove can be used on the face, provided there are no issues with acne or ultra-soft leather sensitive and responsive. With your face damp, apply a hazelnut-sized amount of Black Soap Cream and spread it over your face with your fingertips, avoiding the eye area. Then, using the wet glove, make very gentle circular motions—without pressing or rubbing—paying a little more attention to the T-zone, after two or three minutes, rinse thoroughly with cool water and apply the Agua Micelar Revitalizante with rose extract, which acts as a toner.
  • The Kessa glove can also be used on dry skin to stimulate circulation and firm the skin, especially in areas with cellulite or stretch marks. First, use a good body oil that not only nourishes and moisturizes but also helps firm the skin; we recommend the Aceite Hidro-Nutritivo Menta Vital with peppermint and spearmint essential oils that contribute to a sensation of freshness and energy. Apply the oil to the areas of the body to be massaged—thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen—then use the glove to massage the areas you wish to focus on, always using circular motions and without applying too much pressure. The benefit comes from performing circular movements clockwise and counterclockwise, in a rhythmic manner, for about 5 minutes. If necessary, reapply the oil. Ideally, you should finish with a lukewarm to cool shower and apply a moisturizing cream such as the Crema Hidro-Botánica.
  • The Kessa glove is exceptionally durable; all you need to do is keep it clean, which means washing it regularly with mild soap and a few drops of cleaning vinegar. It’s essential to rinse it thoroughly after each use and hang it up somewhere in the shower so it can drain properly.

IMPORTANT: It is essential to always take into account each person’s physical condition, any potential skin conditions, and any medical prescriptions they may require. Cosmetic products are not medications and do not cure any ailments; rather, they contribute to the skin’s well-being and beauty, help enhance sensitivity, and provide self-care routines that have a positive impact on our mood.
