THE KESSA RITUAL THAT PREFERS MEN'S SKIN

The Kessa ritual men’s skin prefers

WHAT IS THE KESSA RITUAL?

It is one of the pillars of the Hammam, a centuries-old ritual focused mainly on cleansing and purifying the skin through a completely natural exfoliation. Two products are needed for this: black soap and a plant-fibre glove. AT Hammam Al-Ándalus this ritual is practised in full through the service known as Kessa, named after the glove itself.

The purifying ritual through water has a spiritual origin shared, in one way or another, by all the great civilisations that have existed in Europe and the Middle East. The Arab baths brought from Syria by the first Umayyads who settled in Al-Andalus often made use of the facilities of ancient Roman baths. But Andalusian culture added a true cosmetic, hygienic and wellbeing dimension to its spiritual meaning..

Andalusian doctors knew, as Greek doctors had already known, that deep skin hygiene not only improved the appearance of the skin, but also provided benefits for the entire body. The use of a glove and plant-based soap made with olive oil and charcoal ash activated circulation, eliminated toxins and also acted as a bactericide. So, even without knowing the activity of viruses and bacteria, hygiene was already being connected with health. y de jabón vegetal a base de aceite de oliva

THE PERFECT, SIMPLE ROUTINE FORM MEN IN A HURRY

It is not that women are not also rushing through their day-to-day lives. Perhaps they are simply more used to working miracles with time and are better at understanding self-care as part of their daily routine. As many men still reduce their cosmetic ceremony to the morning shower, the duo of Crema de Jabón Negro and Guante Kessa proposed by El Jardín de Hammam can transform those few shower minutes into a multifunctional care ritual.

1. Men’s skin, with a denser epidermis and generally more body hair, except in the case of men who wax or shave their body hair, needs weekly exfoliation. This is especially true for men who exercise often, go to the gym frequently or use swimming pools.

A quick shower with shower gel works for everyday hygiene, but at least a couple of times a month it is recommended to exfoliate the entire body thoroughly using a 100% plant-based product: Black Soap Cream, with activated charcoal, EVOO, grapeseed and eucalyptus extract.

Simply apply a small amount to the damp Kessa glove and rub the skin using circular movements, more or less energetic according to preference, from the feet up to the neck, always in the direction of the heart. This activates both blood and lymphatic circulation, toning the tissues and giving firmness to the skin. Rinsing with warm water, or even better, cold water, leaves the skin perfectly clean, purified and soft.

2. If, in addition to showering, shaving is also part of the routine, and if a razor blade is used, a little Black Soap Cream can be applied directly to the damp skin of the face and neck. When massaged lightly, it quickly creates a foam that allows the razor to glide as if over ice. Not only does this achieve a perfectly close shave, but the skin is left extremely soft, without the need for aftershave or any other product, especially for those who are not particularly fond of creams and lotions. Goodbye to shaving foams that are not exactly known for being sustainable.

3. Beards are back to stay, at least for now, and our grandfathers’ look is once again on trend. This means that a minimum care routine is also necessary to keep the beard clean, healthy and shiny until the next visit to the barber shop. There is no secret. Simply wet the beard thoroughly, take a small amount of Black Soap Cream in the palm of the hand and create a foam to wash the whole beard properly, reaching down to the epidermis. After a few minutes of rubbing, it is important to rinse very well with fairly warm water, then dry with a towel and that is it. The feeling of freshness and cleanliness is immediate. The combination of EVOO, eucalyptus, grapeseed and activated charcoal cares for the beard, but also for the skin underneath.
